Gig professionals and contractual staff are expected to get opportunities in eCommerce companies in the upcoming months, said TeamLease Services, a leading recruit management solution.
The festive months are approaching as we move forward to the latter half of the year. The eCommerce market is gearing itself up for a significant 35% surge (as compared to the previous year) in sales during this season.
In the words of Balasubramanian A, Senior VP and Business Head, TeamLease Services stated that “this festive season, e-commerce will drive sales and fuel job creation on a massive scale. With 10 lakh gig workers and 2.5 lakh contractual staff to be employed, the e-commerce sector's role in employment generation will be significantly impacted.
More Work with eCommerce
The increased shopping is the biggest reason why the eCommerce sector is likely to hire more. These opportunities are expanding to more cities and business categories such as home décor, fashion, beauty, electronics, and groceries.
With a number of work requirements, these roles will witness more hiring: staff for packaging, warehouse, labeling, delivery, customer support, and quality control.
In the last financial year, this sector recorded 20 lakh orders per day during the festival season, a milestone achievement. As the study suggests, the sector now aims to exceed this record in the upcoming months.
There is a huge impact of the National Logistics Policy to propel this trend. This government’s policy is designed to enhance the logistical efficiency and cost-effective delivery processes to distant areas during the holiday and festive season.
Balasubramanian added, Projections indicate that by 2026, the inclusive nature of the sector will be evident, with tier 2, 3, and 4 cities and rural India driving more than 60 per cent of the demand for e-commerce.
