Why Choose WooCommerce?

Different businesses have different requirements. Thankfully, WooCommerce has great features to support businesses. In case you’re considering a migration to WooCommerce, these reasons can be promising.

  • WooCommerce is open-source. It gives you full control over your store. It means you can copy and modify the source code as you require.
  • Furthermore, WooCommerce is great from the SEO point of view. It helps you optimize the SEO aspects of your website so that your SEO score doesn’t get affected.
  • Anyone who has used WordPress knows what a smooth sail the platform is. WooCommerce allows integrations such as blogs very conveniently.
  • Unlike other platforms such as Shopify, WooCommerce lets you implement lesser-known payment gateways that center on particular niches.
  • Furthermore, WooCommerce does not charge additional transaction fees which is not the case with Shopify.
  • Again, when it comes to backing up the design and settings of your store, WooCommerce helps to do it for free. On the contrary, Shopify doesn’t allow this for free.
  • The WooCommerce Shipping extension is an important extension to cut down on costs. It provides easy labeling right from the dashboard. Apart from this, you can also get negotiated discounts with DHL and USPS

Steps to Migrate From Shopify to WooCommerce

The biggest stress point while planning for a platform migration is that it might affect your existing customers and orders. However, if you take certain precautions this issue won’t occur.

The first step is to install WordPress and set up WooCommerce. It has many free and paid themes available to help you set up your online store the way you want. Just like other platforms, you can design your website using WooCommerce. However, simply make sure that you first have to buy a WordPress plan to use WooCommerce.

Once done, it’s time to start the process to migrate Shopify to WooCommerce.

Import/Export Manually

In migration, patience is the key. If you can spend some time patiently, you can migrate Shopify to WooCommerce safely and easily. Plus, the manual process is free.

Export from Shopify

Here are the steps to export your products and customer data from Shopify:

  • Create a Shopify account
  • Back up your product information
  • Go to the admin panel’s dashboard > “Products”
  • Click “Export”
  • You’ll see a dialog box from which you need to check the products you want to migrate
  • Choose the CSV type: CSV file with spreadsheet or plain CSV file
  • Click “Export Products”

The same is the process with customer information. You can navigate the dashboard to migrate your customer information to your WooCommerce account manually.

Import to WooCommerce

The next comes importing to WooCommerce. Here’s how it is done:

  • Go to your WordPress dashboard > “Products”
  • Choose the “Import” option located at the top
  • You’ll see a built-in CSV importer here. Click “Choose File” and select the CSV file you downloaded from Shopify
  • Click “Continue”
  • There’s a Column Mapping screen next. This is where WooCommerce will try to match the column names of both platforms. You can edit these as per your requirements
  • Go for “Run the Importer”

That’s it! Sit back and wait until the process to migrate Shopify to WooCommerce is complete.

Check and Test Your New Store

Assess whether your new store doesn’t lack any crucial data from your previous Shopify website. One of the most important steps when you migrate Shopify to WooCommerce is ensuring all the important pages and information are intact. To verify this, you can check each page manually or visit the admin panel to check the database.
